Halogen-filled light bulbs share a few similarity to incandescent bulbs but are just more compact, brighter, and more expensive.  Aside from that, they also function longer than just about any average incandescent electric bulbs since the internal system allows redeposition of tungsten atoms in the filament.  However, this kind of lamps are not quite similar to CFL bulbs or compact fluorescent bulbs that contain mercury.  Because of this, CFL lamps have confronted disposal legislation issues.  Probably one limiting characteristic of halogen lamps is you are unable to use them all over again.  They are not recyclable contrary to the CFL counterparts.

During Disposal

There comes a time when your bulbs get busted.  The solution is replacement.  Since you can’t utilize these halogen bulbs as soon as they consumed all their lifespan, there is no other choice than to discard them.  Before any effort to remove the light bulb, make sure that the power is shut off and the cord is not plugged.  Now, you need to wait for the light bulb to cool down, if it was just used, before touching it.  Certain bulbs can be removed from the socket by carefully pulling them on the ends.  Others need to be turned in counterclockwise way to take it off the socket.

Now, what you should do is to envelop the busted bulb in a used magazine or perhaps replace it inside its old package.  The rationale of covering the busted light bulb is actually to prevent dangers of breakage.  So, your old bulb is totally ready for discarding and since you may be forced to dump that piece of scrap the way you do with your regular waste, you must adhere to the city rules for waste removal. Observe these policies in order to avoid unneccessary problems and penalties.

Changing Your Bulbs

To begin with, check that the electricity supply is shut down to prevent dangerous accidents.  Put hand gloves on as you really don’t like to hold the bulb surface with bare hands.  If you do not know, the lube on your body might reduce the lifespan of the light bulb and at times might cause the light bulb to burst if it is very hot.  If ever you have no gloves, you can use a towel or cloth, anything which provides a barrier between your skin and the quartz bulb surface is good enough.

Before putting the bulb into the socket, look for defects.  Although this should not be a problem in case you obtained the merchandise at a reliable store, it may serve as a precaution – to test the electric bulb for indications of defectiveness.  Position the new light bulb in the socket by rotating it clockwise until it’s already firm.  Connect the electric supply to check out if it really works fine.

Changing light bulbs might be hard if they are situated in hard-to-reach spots.  If this is the case, try a light bulb gripper.  Don’t ever hold bulbs (regardless of whether it’s GU10 or G9 halogen bulbs) whilst they are turned on.
