Someday, hopefully, we will be able to derive a lot of our power from more environmentally friendly sources.
Im betting on the power of the sun, for one. If I ever win the lottery, I’m going to get my house fitted with solar panels so we dont use as much regular electricity. If you want to benefit from solar electrcity you have to live somewhere that gets a lot of sunshine.
thats probably more problematic’especially if you have a housing association or need special zoning requirements.
Apparently just weatherizing your house–making sure the windows are well-insulated, going around with a caulking gun and sealing the cracks–even relatively small changes along those lines can make a big difference. I heard theres a special program to help people do that if they cant afford to do it on their own.
Too bad theres no special solar panel installation program, or I would definitely sign up for that one.
The demand for oil is going up while the availability is going down. Very soon in the future there will be no oil remaining.
As a result, renewable energies attain increasing significance for our world wealth. We have to ensure that we have the technical know how to counter the circumstances once the oil is fully exhausted.
Using solar panels is one of the most important methods of generating renewable energy.
Solar panels can be installed nearly anywhere. People install solar panels on the roof of their homes in order to cut down their electricity bills in the future and to make a contribution to a greener and safer environment.
Without any emissions or the risk of a nuclear fallout, large solar plants are being set up in order to generate electricity in an alternative way.
the ubiquitous availability of sunshine:
Whether you live in New York City or on the north pole ‘ you can use solar panels to generate electricity.
POWER SUPPLY TO APARTMENTS Due to certain exigencies like childrens higher studies, we had to move from a smaller city to a bigger city.
It was heart wrenching to leave my previous beautiful home driven by solar power.
I had conserved so much electrical energy and also saved a lot of money by way of reduced electricity bills.
We had decided to move to a new flat in a bigger town. The flat was almost at finishing stage when we purchased it.
Just then a thought struck to me and I requested the builder to arrange for solar power for home use geysers. He did not favour these actions at first, as he was not very comfortable soliciting quotations from companies and requesting additional pipe lines to introduce the bathrooms.
Since it was a small building consisting of just 14 apartments, it was not a strenuous affair and he ultimately agreed.
The solar heaters are installed in our bathrooms to get hot water nowadays.

You may be wondering how solar-powered lights work. Solar lights are used after the sun has gone down. So how can they operate?
First of all, understand that lighting devices which relies on solar power generally use a backup battery to operate. Solar cells are used to charge the battery during the day, and the battery powers the light during the night. The solar cells might be attached to the device itself, or might be located nearby.
This type of lighting is often used in remote locations, where conventional power sources are unavailable, and lights can not be connected to the power grid. They are also used for outdoor lighting, or as landscape lights around the home or garden.
Components of Solar Powered Lights
There are four basic components of a solar powered light. Many solar lighting systems are sold with these components already integrated, but it is good to know what they are:
- A charge controller
- The batteries
- The lamp
- The solar cells
When purchasing solar lights, the majority of the cost involved will be for the solar cells. These are the most expensive parts of the device or system. Be sure your system is installed within some type of weatherproof housing, so that the solar cells and electrical connections will withstand the elements. Ensure that the electrical parts are protected from moisture at all times.
The charge controller is like the “brain” of a solar-powered light. It protects the batteries from overcharging, and maximizes the electrical output of your solar cell array. It also controls the duration that the light can operate. Without a charge controller, your setup will not function properly.
Uses of Solar Lights
Most solar powered lights are used to illuminate outdoor gardens and walkways. The lights are generally cordless, and you can move them around easily without the need to dig ditches and run the wires underground.
One disadvantage solar lighting has, in comparison to conventional lighting, is that its stored solar power diminishes over time. That means that while the light may be strong during the first few hours of operation, it will then gradually grow dimmer as the night goes on. This might not be seen as a disadvantage by some, because most outdoor activities occur during the early evening hours. Different solar lighting systems also have different capacities, and some last longer than others.
Keep in mind that solar-powered lights depend on the sun to operate, and their performance can be influenced by weather conditions. If the weather is cloudy or rainy, then the battery power will be lesser than it would be on a sunny day. There are also different levels of quality, where solar lights are concerned – the cheaper ones tend to be less efficient and do not last as long.
Hopefully in the near future, improvements in solar technology can make solar lighting less expensive, and more efficient, even during bad weather.

There are different ways of making electricity for yourself. Alot of people use wind power and solar power. Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form, such as electricity, using wind turbines. A wind turbine is a rotating machine which converts the kinetic energy in wind into mechanical energy. If the mechanical energy is used directly by machinery, such as a pump or grinding stones, the machine is usually called a windmill. If the mechanical energy is then converted to electricity, the machine is called a wind generator, wind turbine, wind power unit (WPU), wind energy converter (WEC), or aerogenerator.
Solar power is another common use of producing electricity. Solar power technologies provide electrical generation by means of heat engines or photovoltaics. Once converted its uses are only limited by human ingenuity. A partial list of solar applications includes space heating and cooling through solar architecture, potable water via distillation and disinfection, daylighting, hot water, thermal energy for cooking, and high temperature process heat for industrial purposes.
Alot of people nowadays are looking at ways i.e. wind power and solar power to produce cheaper electricity. With living costs getting so expensive nowadays, people are looking other ways to reduce their electricity bill or create their own source in their backyard.
There are many companies solar electricity out there who would be able to help you get a grant cheaper electricity or tell how to build a wind or solar farm.
Building your own solar or wind power can be very expensive costing as much as $2000. So building your own professional system for less than $200 makes sense.

More and more people are concluding that you can still enjoy modern amenities while enjoying the independence of off grid living. Being off the grid means being exactly that, off the grid. Not having any power lines, not having an electric bill, and being free of utility grid demands, not to mention their ever-rising rates. Off grid living is environmentally friendly and cost effective and it is an option available to almost any one owning a home.
The guidelines of off grid living may be applied to any home in the world, even those currently connected in some way. From solar panels, hydropower and windmills, there is growing curiosity in off grid living and breaking free from fossil fuel burning power plants. The technologies have advanced and the costs have dropped greatly.
Even do-it-yourselfers can take leaps into off grid living with many kits, resources and manuals available for instruction. As energy demands increase globally, those living off grid can rest easy knowing their own energy costs are diminishing.
The plan of off grid living can be nerve racking to some who believe they will have to give up some of their most prized possessions and electronic gadgets to achieve such freedom. This is very far from the truth. Off grid living is simply about learning to control your use of electricity. It can be as simple as turning off light switches that are not really in use. Obtaining appliances that don’t use energy when not in use (like clocks on microwaves and stoves). Learning to unplug, not just turn off. Things like computers and printers, well anything with the little green light that is always on, these items are stealing precious energy and adding to your bill. Wanting to become part of the off grid living adventure, doesn’t always mean giving up everything, sometimes it just means getting smarter about the things you have.
Off grid living has gotten so accepted that even completely re-locatable high efficiency homes are being produced to meet those needs. Very similar to trailer homes and travel travelers in layout and definitely only designed for a one or two person dwelling, these housing units use solar power, passive solar design and a small amount of natural gas to provide off grid living that you can take with you when you move.
If you are interested in off grid living, but need more success stories to drive you over the teetering point then start your research on the Internet. There are tons of great resources available and individuals who took the plunge into off grid living with great success telling their stories. Imagine, no more gathering around that one little flashlight when the power goes out, or having the neighbors over to watch their favorite shows when there is a blackout. Off grid living is obtainable for anyone and you too can enjoy the life of off grid living no matter where you make your home.

Electric bills seem to be on the rise with no relief coming in the near future. No wonder more and more people are looking into installing solar panels in an effort to save money. But, their enthusiasm quickly dissipates when they discover the price of professionally installed panels. It can be very expensive, and puts solar power out of reach of the average home owner. However, you can save thousands of dollars if you learn how to make solar panels yourself.
Most of you may be assuming that you have to have some sort of engineering degree or be a DIY genius in order to make your own solar panels. But doesn’t have to be the case. Learning how to make solar panels is a lot easier than you think. In fact, anyone can build their own solar panels, from teenagers on up, and you can do it in a weekend. Plus, you can build your solar panels for the fraction of the cost of what a pre-made solar panel system would cost you.
The other benefit of learning how to make solar panels yourself is that you have a lot more control over the size of the system. This means that you can create a highly scalable system that can fit your needs as they grow.
The trick for learning how to make your own solar panels is having a quality manual. Also, you’ll be surprised at how simple it is to find the supplies you need. In fact, you’ll find most of what you’ll need at your local hardware store. I’m talking about stuff like plywood, rolls of copper wire, and sheets of glass. You can also find inexpensive photovoltaic cells for your project quite easily, either over the internet at places like eBay, or from local retailers.
It won’t take you long to make your solar panels. The average, inexperienced do-it-yourselfer can make their own 100-Watt panels in about a day, provided they have all their materials at hand. 100-Watts may not sound like much, but you’ll be able to power some of your smaller appliances, or perhaps even your workshop so you’ll be able to build more solar panels and your first panel will provide all the power! Now that’s pretty neat.
Before you even start your project, you should get your hands on a good, quality manual that will provide the detailed instructions you need. It should be able to teach you how to make solar panels even if you’re not very mechanically inclined. Don’t forget the old adage that you get what you pay for so don’t skimp when you’re ready to purchase your manual.
The overall cost of making your own solar panels is pretty low so you can afford a quality manual. I won’t lie to you. Making your own solar panels isn’t easy, and will take a bit of effort, but with the right manual you’ll be on you’re way to learning how to make solar panels to meet all your energy needs in no time. Then sit back and relax the next time the power goes out on your block. You’ll be the only one watching TV, and heating up food in the microwave while everyone else is eating a canned dinner by candlelight.
Yes, a professionally installed solar panel systems can cost thousands. Who has money to spare in today’s economy? Make the choice to go “solar” today, and learn how to make solar panels on your own. You’ll be saving money, and the environment. For more information, visit http://renewableenergyathome.info.

With the rapid advancement of solar power we are now seeing new products enter the market containing “integrated solar panels”.
For example, solar shingles. Essentially, these are ordinary roof shingles which are made out of photovoltaic materials. They perform the same function as ordinary roof shingles, with the added capability of producing electricity.
The advantage of these thin “solar panels” is that they can now be integrated right into one’s building materials - so instead of having solar panels on your roof, you would now have a solar roof.
Aside from being more desirable from an aesthetic standpoint, this also eliminates the need for bulky and heavy “traditional solar panels” to be installed.
How are Solar Shingles Made?
Advancements in solar power technology, such as the inventions of solar ink and other combinations of semi-conductors, have made it possible to combine or include photovoltaic materials in with a wide range of other products and materials. Solar cells no longer need to be made out of bulky heavy weight silicon panels, but can in fact be printed on just about any type of material - such as metal, plastic, and others. Researchers have even found ways to produce organic photovoltaics, though that is at the moment still in a purely experimental phase.
Benefits of Solar Shingles
- Attractive style
- Fully integrated shingle roof
- Lower electric bill
- Free electricity
- Pollution-free power
- Increased home value
- Protects the environment
- Exceptionally durable
- Great investment
- Significant state cash rebates available
- Federal tax incentives available
Costs and Financing
To be honest, right at this moment solar shingles might still seem expensive to some, but as any new technology develops its products become cheaper with time. However it does appear that the cost will be considerably lower than installing a comparable set of conventional solar panels. In one recent example, the entire cost of a home solar shingle installation was approximately $16,000, with a $12,000 tax rebate. This brought the entire cost to only $4000. Not only is that considerably lower than the usual cost involved in installing a home solar power system, but one has to keep in mind that the cost of tiling or shingling a roof is covered at the same time. These are, after all, shingles as well as solar panels.
Clean energy cash incentives and tax rebates are available at a federal level, and most states also have a clean energy or sustainable energy source rebate program. This, combined with energy savings, does make them affordable, and will in most cases pay for itself over time.

When talking about green energy, what are we really talking about? In a nutshell, green energy is energy that comes from any one of the following renewable energy sources: wind, Sun/Solar, water/ hydroelectric, geothermal, biofuels and biomass energy.
There is no way that you are not going to find some form of green energy in play anywhere in the world at any given moment. This article will discuss how each renewable energy source is considered to be green energy, starting with wind power.
Renewable energy advantages will become more and more evident in years to come. Fossil fuels are continually being depleted and reducing the quality of the air that we breath.
Renewable energy systems encompass a broad, diverse array of technologies, and the current status of these can vary considerably. Some technologies are already mature and economically competitive, while others are yet to be unveiled.
The term ‘Renewable energy’ refers to electricity created by energy sources, such as wind, solar, geothermal, hydro, and biomass. These energy sources are considered renewable sources because they are continuously replenished.
Technologies play an important role in the U.S. Government’s strategy to respond to the challenges of climate change, energy security and local air pollution.
Renewable Energy resources (hydropower, wind, geothermal, biomass and solar) are currently used to generate only about 10 percent of all electricity in America. If you were to back out hydropower, the remainder only represents about 2 percent of our electricity, produced.
The price we pay for energy is not only your monthly electric bill. Behind the charges on the bill, oil, gas and coal reserves are being depleted quickly, and their wastes continue to eat away at our planet. So it is obvious that the issue of energy facing most of us is basically two fold.
Different approaches taken to tackle green technology issues and utilize green energy, currently focus mainly on wind energy and hence wind turbines, photovoltaic cells , and even the use of the stirling engine.
You may be thinking that these are strategies and methodologies which have to be adopted by the government and you can really do nothing about it.
In fact I shall show you briefly what you can be doing to be part of the Green Cycle which enhances not only the environment but also your lifestyle! In fact I shall soon show you how you could be making use of green energy to benefit personally. How about if I asked you: “Would you like to unplug your house from the electric grid and start living 100% on green energy? Would you want to save up to $200 per month and make the Electric Company pay you instead of you paying them?
Don’t forget that alternative energy will show you step by step methods that can be used by anyone who wants to generate his own electricity. So if you have ever wished to stop wasting money on your electricity bills and want to help save global economy and the Earth, you are on the right page. As I have explained earlier, there are various ways, to produce green energy. However most of the products you find will not be suitable to produce the electricity needed to be used domestically.
They cost way too much for you to afford and can only be used corporately. Else, you’ll find some companies which have developed products for generating home wind power or solar power or both but they cost thousands of dollars excluding installation.
This is why I have developed the best deals which you can use to build in your own garage for just a few dollars! I’ve made loads of tests and spent loads of money to make sure you can be making use of the most effective ways to produce heaps of energy. All you need to do is apply it and start benefiting immediately. You will be able to choose between two types of electricity generators. These are solar based or wind based.
You could even combine both and form a home made Power Generation Plant. Can you imagine wearing a T-shirt that ran your cell phone, or a pair of jeans that recharged your iPod? What if you had a beach umbrella that ran a TV? Does it sound a bit far-fetched?
Okay, I will agree with you that it does.
Research into photovoltaics and solar energy has, nevertheless, reached a point where these are definite possibilities.
For more information you may also see Thin Film Photovoltaics.
What Are Organic Photovoltaics?
Organic Photovoltaics, or OPV for short, are new types of semiconductors which are based on organic materials.
Though they are still in the research phase, OPVs can be made as thin flexible sheets, and as such they can be incorporated into cloth or paper.
Due to the fact that they are flexible they can be mass-produced at low cost. So another result of this advanced research could be low-cost mass-produced inexpensive solar cells.
What are Semiconductors?
Rest assured, whether you understand the below or not, it won’t affect whether a solar charging T-shirt will work for you (if it ever hits the market).
But I will try to explain it in simple terms, just so you have a better idea of what we are talking about.
The following is a brief description of semiconductors are.
Semiconductors (organic or not) are materials that have either too many free electrons, or have a scarcity of electrons.
Semiconductors with too many free electrons are called “N-type semiconductors” amongst scientific types of people.
Semiconductors that don’t have enough electrons are called “P-type”. P-type semiconductors have “holes.” Holes are places where there the atom “theoretically” should have an electron, but does not. (Which just goes to show that reality and theory don’t always match up.)
By combining materials that have these qualities, we are able to make electrical components such as transistors (transistors are devices which help regulate the flow of electricity).
Some semiconductors are sensitive to light when they are stuck together. It is these semiconductors that are used in photovoltaic cells. When they are exposed to light, a tiny electrical current is created. This is not a new discovery.
But, as stated earlier, it is new that we are able to create a semiconductor out of organic materials. And that opens the door to a whole new range of possibilities.
Incidentally, computer chips are usually made out of semiconductors. So this new discovery might have some interesting applications in the field of computers.
Humanized robots? Artificial intelligence? Who knows.

Thin Film Solar Panels are made up of a lightweight and flexible material which can be rolled up and easily transported. Thus, they are very useful as a source of portable solar power.
The following are some basic facts about Thin Film Solar Panels:
Any person who has ever used a solar-powered calculator has had “hands on” experience with Thin Film Photovoltaics. This technology has been with us for years, creating the solar cell strips which are used to power calculators
Thin film technology has now evolved to a point where we can mass-produce solar panels, through the use of machines not unlike printing presses.
The substance used to “print” thin film solar panels is called solar ink.
Solar ink can be made in any color. In fact, it is possible to design the inks in such a way as to make use of different parts of the light spectrum.
Solar presses print thin film solar panels called solar rolls. A solar roll is 13 inches wide and can be up to 2400 feet long.
A solar roll can be cut to the required size after the solar ink has been printed onto it.
The electrical connections in a solar roll are automatically welded in by laser. This takes away a lot of the time which is required to construct our “conventional” solar panels.
Once solar technology reaches a cost effectiveness, of $1.00 per watt, its prices will be competitive with conventional fossil fuels. TFPV is rapidly approaching this benchmark and could possibly beat this in the near future.
Solar ink can be printed onto fabrics, plastics and metals, allowing one to design solar panels for a wide range of products, each tailored to their specific needs.
Thin film photo voltaic solar panels are not as effective as solid solar panels. It’s the fact that it is so much cheaper and lighter than conventional solar panels, that gives it the “edge”.
The U.S. military is extremely interested in the development of thin-film technology, and spent 1.7 million dollars at one laboratory last year in order to facilitate the development of thin film photovoltaics. It’s interested in using thin film photovoltaics for troop communication devices and to reduce the heat signatures when troops using conventional generators.
Solar shades and tents are now available, using thin film photovoltaics, that provide up to 2kw of power. This allows them to operate laptops, communication devices, TVs and much more.
Thin film photovoltaic devices are now widely available on the consumer market. A good example of this is the flexible Brunton Solarroll which comes in several sizes.
A thin film flexible solar panel weighing less than a pound is capable of recharging a laptop. Due to its flexibility, it can be rolled up and transported easily.
Thin film photovoltaics are also a realistic source of emergency power. This makes them a handy and economic addition to emergency preparedness kits and wilderness survival kits.
Current research on thin film photovoltaics is aimed at increasing the power output of thin film solar panels, should it achieve this goal there is a very good possibility that we will have solved the problem cheap clean renewable energy.
